Having a good vocabulary is a pre-requisite to cracking the various competitive entrance exams including 11 plus exams for grammar or independent schools. One should be patient and understand that building vocabulary is a slow and tedious task, especially when one is using a word list. At the outset one should first measure his/her vocabulary. Take a vocabulary test, like the one that appears in Reader’s Digest or else one can pick out thirty words randomly from any word list and check how many of these do you know.
Mugging up words from a word list is a very arduous task. One should not spend hours at a go trying to cram in 50 words at a time. The next day, one would, at best, remember only half of them. Also doing the word list sequentially, one remembers the word more by association i.e., the word following this word means so and so; this word on top left means this, etc. When the same word is encountered in a passage recollecting the meaning is difficult. Reading many times is not enjoyable and thus become boring just because of not so good vocabulary.
It has been proven that visual learning is the best learning and remembered for long.
11 Plus exam Papers in association with Champs Learning created a wonderful mechanism to learn vocabulary online. Format
Each package will have 8 modules. Each Module is divided in to 5 units and each unit will have two/three files containing 30 - 40 words. The files are in Video mode with a link to open with voiceover to it.
A student has to login in his system and select a module and then Unit. Click on the files’ link to enjoy the learning.
Online learning also gives an advantage of learning anywhere, anytime.
Each module will have an assessment on the words learnt in the respective module and a digital flash card set.
Our recommendation is to do one unit every week and do the assessment after every Module. We emphasise on good reading habits and thus recommend reading the relevant book while doing each module.

A. Foundation Power Vocabulary Package (recommended for Year 4)
- The Foundation package consists of 1280 words divided over 8 modules.
- The first 4 weeks will have 30 words each and the 5th week will have 40 words.
- Flash Card set : A random-sorted digital flash card set containing all the words in a module will be provided at the end of the module
- Assessments/Worksheets: An assessment will be provided at the end of each module. This will be in PDF link format. The assessment will be a mix of activities that help to recollect the words.
